Active approach in Podiatry
At Podiatry Beld, we take an active approach. We see the long-term benefits of actively working on the correct movement patterns and implement this approach for our clients. This means that our treatment plans aim to create the right conditions so that the body can move properly without excessive reliance on aids.
Conditions for movement
To move effectively, the body needs certain conditions. Good mobility in the feet and ankles is essential to activate the correct muscles and create stability. Additionally, the strength in the feet must be adequate.
While orthotic therapy can support this, our primary goal is to create the right conditions for proper movement whenever possible.
Holistic approach
To achieve this, we use manual therapy techniques, intrinsic foot exercises, lower leg strength exercises, and stability training. We take a holistic view of the problem and the human body.
By addressing the root cause of the issue, we can tackle complaints structurally. Especially with manual therapy in the lower extremities, significant improvements can often be felt and seen in the short term. This makes our work incredibly rewarding, as some clients become symptom-free after just one or a few treatments.
Additionally, we work closely with other disciplines such as physiotherapists, sports physicians, and orthomanual practitioners. Together, we strive to create the optimal conditions for movement.
What happens without an active approach?
Without adopting an active approach, we risk missing a crucial element of our treatment. This may lead to not fully addressing the root cause of the problem. Consequently, we might rely more heavily on orthotic therapy as the sole solution. Without complementary active therapies to improve the underlying conditions, there’s a higher chance that the complaints will return in the short term.
Who is an active approach suitable for?
Who is an Active Approach Suitable For?
The active treatment approach is suitable for everyone. Even though each individual is different, our vision remains the same for every client. We always strive to first create conditions to optimize movement patterns. This is achieved through manual therapy and exercises where necessary.
Sometimes, this approach is complemented by fitting orthotics. The approach we choose depends on the position and movement of the feet, the client’s load-bearing capacity, and how quickly someone needs to be free from complaints.
In our miniseries, we show exercises to strengthen various muscles. You can find our miniseries on our Instagram reels, our YouTube channel, and in this Footnews article.
Does the active approach fit my situation?
It is always important to conduct a thorough examination to determine what type of treatment is suitable for you. We work closely with physiotherapists, sports physicians, and general practitioners. You might be referred to a podiatrist through these specialists.
However, a referral is not necessary for podiatry or podology. You can schedule an appointment with one of our podiatrists or registered podologists for an initial examination/intake. From there, we can determine what is needed to achieve a proper movement pattern for you.
Depending on your supplemental insurance, appointments may be covered. Check the podiatry coverage overview (vergoedingsoverzicht podotherapie) or the podology coverage overview (vergoedingsoverzicht podologie) to see what is covered by your insurance.
